Painting 310
oil and mixed media on canvas / 30" x 90"
I am motivated by my memories as a young artist from art school, especially memories from the third-year painting studio. I painted objects typically found in the studio, objects with which I create my art, my art supplies. I also wanted to capture the painting time I spent in the painting studio and to represent painting student culture at Emily Carr. I am interested in the relationship between memories and objects. By painting these objects, I create and represent nostalgia. Furthermore, I use material collages and thick paints in physical opposition to this flattening digital culture in which we live.
