The Displaced Project (Part I): Nomadic Object of Domestic Comfort
standard wool blanket, generic lightweight cotton / 62" x 83"
The Displaced Project is an ongoing project that questions the emotional impact of displacement and explores the meaning of home for those who have been displaced by damaging events such as natural disasters or political conflict. For Part I, I created a textile-based object of the body that is designed to suit the nomadic needs of a displaced person, while also serving to recreate a sense of domestic comfort and to preserve personal and cultural memory. The object is an adaptable and versatile garment that is a bag, a bed, and a seasonable tunic, all in one compact unit.
