Flora: A Concept in Healthcare
designed for medical-grade silicone.
This project was developed by Design for Development and B.C. Children’s Hospital to design an improved oxygen delivery system for an underserved hospital in Uganda. The concept addressed the broader issue of designing for developing countries: the lack of cross-cultural understanding. These devices respond to their environment by signalling when they are not functioning properly, in the same way that plants wilt, curl, and shrink when they are not healthy. We all understand the vocabulary of plant life and living organisms. Perhaps the medical devices that support our lives should behave in a way we can all understand.
