Landscape Appreciation: Chapters 1–19 (Detail)
eccentric weft tapestry / 18" x 34"
I use my art to explore and share the landscapes in which I work as a wildlife naturalist in remote watersheds. The landscape aesthetic has been part of our shared culture for hundreds of years and has been built upon a rich deposit of myths, memories, and obsessions. I use the woven structure to examine the complexities of my surroundings through material made from previously used paper that I have spun into thread. The thread in this piece is made from a discarded geography textbook.
